My parents gave me all the opportunities to try and do different activities while growing up.
I did ballet. I had swimming lessons; I
In high school, I admired students who could do Impromptu Speeches. You see, I could memorize long scripts, I could compose essays, but to speak my mind in a contest? Whoa!
I guess, I carried that thought - wishful thinking with me, even after college, that it led me to become a member of Toastmaster's International in Makati, Philippines and then here in Gallup, NM, USA!
Do I still know how to ballet dance?
Swim?
Play piano?
Act? Oh yes! Can I count acting sick, so my husband will do all the housework? ROTFL!
I thank my parents for the opportunities they had given me. All those activities helped me to know myself more. It has molded me to become the person I am today.
Exposure to so many activities made me realize my core gifts too.
Today, I continue to write, speak and share my thoughts because those are my core gifts. Gifts that I can share with the world. By doing this, I feel alive, happy, fulfilled, passionate and grateful.
I guess becoming a jack of all trades isn't bad after all. Because, one day soon, you'll just know your passion. One day, soon, you'll just know your calling. One day, soon, you'll just know, you found yourself.
What about you? Have you discovered your core gifts?
NAMASTE.

I also took so many classes during summer when I was younger, from computers to speed reading to karate to basketball and others, I ended up being able to use most of this skills growing up.
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteThe saying "Jack of all trades, master of none." applies more to me. But at least I have a lot of skills that prove to be helpful while I was growing up. Most even are useful up to this day.
This is part of the Spartan training, my late dad imparted to us. His reasonnig, hindi raw kami mawawalan ng trabaho. Yes, being a Jack -of-all-trade , is a big thing for me. Nakakatipid sa budget.
ReplyDeleteI get described a lot as one; the best and most flattering label I've received was a "Renaissance Man" :) All in all, I think the experiences and challenges of doing so many things is a tribute of sorts to life; we have one, might as well do whatever we want! (Beneficial activities, of course!)
ReplyDeleteDiscovering my core gift is really a struggle for me. I can say I haven't found my core gift yet. But I am just doing things I want and I love, the right time will come that it will just manifest.
ReplyDeleteYou're very talented. Yes indeed of such gifts you had you may consider yourself as "Jack of all trades" but not "master of none." You did possess them all and could do them as you please.
ReplyDeleteI had the same experience when I was young and I although I have not retained all learning, I think I remember the best of them so it helps me a lot. So thanks to my parents!
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky having a very supportive parents. And I admire you for being such a talented kid.
ReplyDeleteI remember you suggesting that I check out ToastMaster's. But I haven't really gathered the guts to pursue it still. Maybe one day, when I feel ready to express my thoughts vocally to other people, other than my family and friends. :)
ReplyDeleteI recall taking summer classes back in college to keep us in our toes and make sure we get to know most of them first.
ReplyDeleteI never did what you did when I was kid because of financial reason .We were poor and my parents only had enough money to send us to school but .I learned as I grew up ,same with my sibling .I am proud now that I have money to send my son to this lesson(swimming, piano ,karate ,arts, voice) back in the Philippines.
ReplyDeleteI only got myself to karate. haha! My mom would want me to do valet and voice lesson!. Tsk. I guess, these activities are good for the kids if there will be extra income from the parents...
ReplyDeleteWow, you did a lot of things while growing up. Very much skilled and it's your advantage.
ReplyDeleteWow! you know how to play piano! I envy you for that! =)
ReplyDeleteFor me, being jack of all trades is a good thing. It only means that you're a learner who's not afraid to try. Personally, I'm more into arts. I like drawing, writing and some techie stuffs.
Lessons learned here. Jack of all trades master of none. :) But you know, as long as you enjoy everything that you do, all this none is a plus. We don't care on anything, what we care is we enjoy and experience what a good life can offer. agree?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I much rather prefer being a master of one than being a Jack of all trades, but a master of none. That way, I can build a career around it.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I never had any extra curricular activities, no special classes like yours. But I told myself, once I have my own child, I'll expose him to as many things as possible. let him explore and show him his potential skills by letting him try or learn new skills. Then let him choose and shine with the activity he loves the most.
